Terms of Service
Last updated: 25 August 2026 · Version 1.4
These Terms of Service govern your use of the lostblip platform ("lostblip", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using any part of lostblip, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms in full. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.
1. Purpose and Nature of the Service
lostblip is an ultra-minimalist, passive digital notice board. Its sole purpose is to allow individuals who have already encountered each other in the physical world during a shared journey (such as flights, trains, buses, or ships) to leave a text-only message to signal their presence.
By accepting these Terms, you explicitly acknowledge that lostblip:
- Is NOT a matchmaking service, an online dating agency, or a social network
- Does NOT introduce users, does NOT create new connections, and does NOT actively pair individuals
- Does NOT verify the truthfulness, identity, or background of users posting or replying on the platform
The initial contact has already occurred exclusively in real life by chance; lostblip merely acts as a neutral, retrospective archive to facilitate reconnection. Consequently, lostblip bears zero liability for missed matches, false identities, catfishing, unsolicited contact, emotional distress, or any outcome resulting from interactions on or off the platform.
2. Your account
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials
- You must provide accurate information at registration
- You may not create multiple accounts or impersonate another person
- lostblip reserves the right to suspend or permanently delete accounts that violate these Terms
3. Content rules – announcements
All announcements are reviewed by the lostblip team before publication. The following are strictly prohibited:
- Surnames, phone numbers, email addresses, URLs or links of any kind
- Any attempt to circumvent our automated checks – such as writing a phone number or an address with spaces, separators, or spelled out in words
- Financial data, bank details, passwords or identity documents
- Offensive, discriminatory, threatening or sexually explicit language
- Advertising, spam or promotional content of any kind
- Content that could be used to harass, stalk or harm another person
- False or fabricated journey details intended to mislead other users
- Any content that violates applicable local, national or international laws or regulations
Each account may have up to 3 active announcements at any one time. Deleting an announcement frees a slot for a new one.
When you create an announcement you choose where it appears. This journey only means it is found by searching for that exact journey. Public board means it is also listed for anyone browsing the site, without needing to search. In both cases the announcement can be found without an account – the choice affects how easily it is found, not who may find it. You make this choice for each announcement, you can see which option is active in "My activity", and you can delete an announcement at any time.
lostblip reserves the right to reject, edit or remove any announcement without notice and without liability.
4. Content rules – private replies
Private replies exchanged between users after someone responds to an announcement are stored in encrypted form, and access is technically restricted to the two participants of that conversation. The same content prohibitions listed in Section 3 apply. By using the private reply feature you acknowledge that:
- lostblip does not read or monitor private replies. This is a binding commitment: the content of private replies is never seen by a person at lostblip, and is not used for analytics, profiling, advertising or any other purpose, nor shared with third parties
- Private replies pass through the same automated checks as announcements, which block contact details – including the @ symbol, and phone numbers or addresses written with spaces, separators or spelled out in words. These checks run automatically as you write, and no one at lostblip sees what they check
- You are solely responsible for the content you send in private replies
- Sharing prohibited content in private replies is a violation of these Terms and may result in permanent account suspension
- In the event of a user report, moderation decisions are based on the reporting user's own statement and on non-content signals – such as repeated independent reports about the same account – and not on the content of the conversation
Each account may reply to up to 2 announcements in any 30-day period. Each reply frees up a slot again 30 days after it was sent. Messages within a conversation are not limited.
5. The contact exchange session
When both users confirm a match ("This is them"), lostblip unlocks a one-time contact exchange session. In this session:
- You may share a phone number or a social network profile
- Contact data is stored in encrypted form and is visible only to the two participants. Each contact is automatically deleted 7 days after it is copied by the other person, or within 30 days of being shared if it is never copied
- Sharing financial data, passwords, identity documents or sensitive personal information is strictly prohibited even in this session
- lostblip is not responsible for any communication, meeting or event that occurs outside the platform after the contact exchange
6. lostblip's role and liability
- lostblip is a neutral platform and does not verify the identity of its users
- lostblip does not guarantee that any message will reach the intended person or result in a connection
- lostblip is not responsible for the accuracy or truthfulness of any user-generated content
- lostblip is not liable for any harm, loss or damage arising from use of the platform or from contact between users, whether on or off the platform
- The Translate button opens the announcement in an external translation service of its own. lostblip does not produce those translations and cannot vouch for their accuracy: where a translation and the original differ, the original is what was written
7. Reporting and closing conversations
- Users may close a private conversation at any time using the "This is not the right person?" option, which immediately stops new messages in that conversation. This can be undone later by the same user if needed.
- When closing a conversation this way, users may optionally report it to the lostblip team, with an optional note describing the issue.
- Consistent with Section 4, lostblip does not read the content of private conversations – including conversations that have been reported. Reports are therefore assessed without reference to conversation content.
- Any report submitted optionally when closing a conversation constitutes a unilateral statement made under the sole responsibility of the reporting user. Such reports do not constitute verified proof, but are processed by the system solely as indicators of behavioral patterns over time, for the protection of the community.
- lostblip does not act on a single isolated report alone. Suspension or removal of an account is considered only where a pattern of repeated, independent reports exists, or where publicly visible content (such as an announcement) itself violates these Terms.
- Repeatedly submitting announcements that are rejected for breaching these Terms may itself lead to suspension, independently of whether any report has been received. Deleting a rejected announcement does not remove it from this assessment.
8. Intellectual property
- The lostblip name, logo, design and codebase are the exclusive property of lostblip and its creators
- Users retain ownership of the content they post but grant lostblip a non-exclusive licence to display it on the platform
- You may not reproduce, copy or distribute any part of lostblip without prior written consent
9. Privacy and data
lostblip. collects only the data necessary to operate the platform. We do not sell user data to third parties. We do not display advertising. lostblip uses third-party infrastructure providers for hosting, database, authentication and email delivery – selected for their compliance with EU data protection standards. Full details of what we collect, why, how long we keep it and what rights you have are set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. See also our Cookie Policy.
10. Termination & Account Deletion
- You may delete your account at any time – self-service, no manual intervention required
- Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, your own messages, your own announcements, and any contacts you shared. The conversation itself is not destroyed – the other participant's own messages remain visible to them, preserving their side of the exchange. This applies equally whether you are the announcement's author or the person who replied
- When an author removes an announcement through the platform interface (without deleting their account), the announcement is hidden from the radar and public board to preserve the integrity of any ongoing conversation linked to it. Journey details (journey type, date, time, seat) are also hidden from both participants' conversation history at this point. The conversation itself, including messages from both participants, is not deleted. The underlying data is not permanently deleted until the author deletes their account
- lostblip may suspend or terminate accounts for violations without prior notice
- This process is designed with the right to erasure (GDPR Art. 17) in mind
11. Changes to these Terms
lostblip may update these Terms at any time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version. Continued use of the platform after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy. Any disputes arising from use of the platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Italy, unless otherwise required by applicable consumer protection law in your country of residence.
